Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittany

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would attribute it to a strong work ethic, which was instilled in me by my family.

I'm a first-generation college student, first-generation college graduate, first-generation licensed social worker, first-generation professional. So, the work ethic that was passed down to me from those who came before me who didn't have a fraction of the

opportunities that I had was something that pushed me forward.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Always be authentic.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would encourage young women to identify the one thing they feel they cannot do and challenge themselves to do it anyway. Whether it is related to their career, personal growth, or both, the most important thing is to pursue opportunities that align with their own core values and remain true to who they are.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The greatest challenge is understanding diversity, equity, and inclusion in education and research, and in the current environment there feels like there is an attack on those initiatives. The greatest

opportunity is for those committed to staying the course and recognizing the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion, because representation is really important, especially for women.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I would say compassion, work ethic, and just being kind.
