Her Story
About Brittany
Brittany Coleman is a Senior Content Strategist at Omnissa, where she turns complex technical, product, and business information into clear, engaging content. With more than four years at the company, which began as VMware, she has led content efforts across proposal management, product marketing, website assets, and knowledge management. She has managed hundreds of proposal responses tied to multimillion-dollar sales opportunities, strengthened the content library through governance and reusable assets, and contributed to workflows that cut proposal turnaround times by up to 30%.
Her expertise in making complicated ideas accessible to different audiences grows out of a varied background in journalism and communications, marketing, library science, and technology. Brittany earned her bachelor's degree from San José State University and her Master of Library and Information Science from Drexel University. She also holds professional credentials in Product Marketing and Go-to-Market Strategy. Her earlier roles include marketing specialist, technical services librarian, and project specialist.
She is currently relocating her family back to her hometown in San Jose, California. Brittany credits her mother – a special education teacher who worked several jobs to earn her degrees – as the source of her resilience and drive. She is a committed advocate for greater recognition of women in technology, having seen how her all-female team supports millions in revenue with limited visibility.
Away from work, she enjoys reading, gaming, photography, and spending time with her husband, dog, and two young children.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brittany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my mother, a special education teacher who put herself through college and worked multiple jobs while raising us. Watching her continued work ethic inspired me to pursue a college education and to keep learning throughout my career. When my husband and I moved to New York in 2018, I applied to Drexel University for my master's degree, following her example of advancing education while raising a family.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I have received came from my mother: ignore negativity and don't worry about what others think. This has been especially valuable as a minority woman in technology, where I have had to navigate stereotypes and imposter syndrome.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Stay patient and persevere under pressure, because if you keep moving forward, you will eventually reach your goals. Continue doing what you enjoy, and try to ignore the noise that comes with working in a difficult industry.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Mid-level professionals in technology, particularly women, are often siloed. There are few women in the industry overall; most business units are male-dominated, and awards and recognition often tend to go to men. My team of three women is rare in this field, yet despite supporting millions of dollars in revenue, our work does not receive the recognition it deserves.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me are family, continuous growth, and balance. My family and being present for my two children are at the center of what motivates me, and I value having the flexibility to be fully present for them while also building a meaningful career. At the same time, I’m committed to continuing to learn, strengthen my skills, and take on new challenges. I value a sustainable approach to work—one that allows me to contribute thoughtfully and consistently while maintaining the energy and perspective to grow both personally and professionally.
