Her Story
About Brittany
I never expected to become an independent insurance adjuster when I started in 2011, but it has been such a blessing. My dad encouraged me to get my adjuster license during the BP oil spill because I'm bilingual in Spanish, and although I was feeling independent at the time, I decided to give it a try. My first deployment was actually in auto with State Farm, helping restructure their internal claims systems, and what was supposed to be 3 months lasted over 9 years. During that time, I progressed from a desk adjuster to a trainer, then a traveling trainer across the U.S., and eventually became a site manager overseeing over 180 adjusters handling every type of auto law across all 50 states. My husband also became an adjuster, and in our first year of marriage in 2012, we only spent 8 weeks together because of our deployments. After having three daughters, I took time off but returned during COVID when former colleagues reached out about virtual work. I joined Legion Claims as their resource manager and helped develop their auto division, which I now direct. I'm a people person who loves one-on-one connections, and my greatest pride comes from seeing the adjusters I work with become better versions of themselves. I'm passionate about making sure my impact is always positive, whether it's a small interaction or a long-term relationship, and I want everyone who works with me to come away as a better adjuster than when they started.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I am most proud when people take my experience, my advice, or my training and do something beyond what I could have even hoped for them. They take ownership of it and empower themselves to achieve more than I could have imagined. My number one goal is that everyone who works with me becomes a better adjuster afterward, whether that means they learned more, gained confidence in what they already knew, or felt supported enough to grow. I want to make sure that my interaction with people doesn't hinder or discourage them. I try to lead with the goal that my impact is always a positive one, whether it's a small instance or long-term. I want people to come away from interacting with me as a better version of themselves, and I try to apply that in both my professional and personal life.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Give yourself grace. It is okay to not know what you're wanting to do, it's okay to change your mind, and it's okay to be disappointed in what you thought you wanted and then realize it doesn't work for you anymore in your season, mindset, or lifestyle. I never expected this to be my career when I was getting into it, but it has been such a blessing because I've given myself grace that I'm not a typical mom, wife, or worker with a typical schedule or expectations. All you can do is apply communication, transparency, and give your best every day. If you give your best and give yourself grace, you are going to learn so much about yourself and fine-tune what you can contribute to your space, whether it's your work environment, support system, or the world. Once you figure that out, however long it takes or as you continue to evolve, that is going to be so fulfilling for you.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Communication is huge for me. My husband lovingly refers to me as overly communicative, and my spiritual gift is words of encouragement, so I'm very talkative. I really want to make sure there's strong communication in both my personal and professional life. I'm always very open and transparent about how things are going, because I'm only as good as the people around me, and if everybody knows there's a problem, that's more people who can help support fixing it or finding new ways to address it. I'm also huge on giving your best. If your best is only 40% because you've got a lot going on in your personal life, I'll take it, because that's your best. Not everybody's perfect, we all make mistakes, we all have bad days and things going on that are more important, but if you can give me your best, I will work with that, whatever that means.
