Her Story

About Brittany

Brittany Hertzberg serves as Marketing Manager at Levels Cannabis, also referred to as Level Up Ventures, an 8-location retailer in the cannabis industry. She has been in this role for approximately 11 months, following four years at Total Health Collective, where she advanced to a sales and marketing manager position. Prior to entering the cannabis industry five years ago, Hertzberg worked in healthcare supply chain after years in the service industry as a bartender and waitress. She holds an associate's degree in applied sciences with a focus on entrepreneurship, photography, and videography. Her main areas of expertise are cannabis marketing, including retail marketing and brand marketing, as well as involvement in sales and vendor relations. In addition to her role, she co-owns The Session, an event company that organizes free budtender education events across Michigan, attracting 700 to 1,000 attendees and 30 to 50 participating brands. Hertzberg is involved with philanthropic initiatives such as the Redemption Foundation and the Great Lakes Expungement Foundation. She attributes her success to hard work and perseverance, never giving up when faced with challenges. She advises young women entering the male-dominated industry to speak up and contribute their creative perspectives.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittany

01What do you attribute your success to?

Hard work and perseverance. I am the kind of person that if something isn't gonna work out or if someone says no I never quit. My next step is to figure out how do we get something to work and what can we do to get across that finish line. Really just never giving up is how I got to where I'm at.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to jump in and say something. It's a very male-dominated industry but companies don't know how badly they need the insight of women. Women are stronger mentally and take a more creative approach. The number one thing that has got me able to move up is not being afraid to speak up. I spent the longest time not speaking up in meetings and then one day I just had to start contributing to the conversation.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Challenges include sustainability and getting companies to trust in marketing ROI because it's hard to measure direct returns, fear of spending money that might not come back immediately, not being federally legal which affects financing and taxes like 280E making margins thinner, and companies struggling with tax bills. Opportunities are abundant for growth because the industry is young and we get to carve paths, build the industry into what we want it to be, be creative, and shape our own futures and the entire industry.
