Her Story
About Brittany
I've been in the insurance field for about 16 years, starting right out of college. I fell in love with the randomness of claims and the constant changing nature of the work. My area of expertise is insurance claim handling, specifically New York no fault claims. In my role, I contact insurers and claimants, establish the life of the claim, determine liability, and process with efficiency to close claims as soon as possible. What really drives my passion for this work is the customer appreciation and being able to help people through a process that many are not knowledgeable in. When people get in a car accident, it's a very stressful encounter and they're often frazzled, so I find great fulfillment in helping them walk through the steps and giving them peace of mind that I'm going to help them through the process. I graduated with both a bachelor's and associate's degree in 3 years and obtained about 12 state licenses after that. One of my most notable professional achievements is being enrolled in Who's Who of America.

01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to dedication and determination. These two values have been the driving forces throughout my 16-year career in insurance claim handling. They've allowed me to continue learning and continue pushing to evolve my own knowledge and wisdom in the field. This commitment to growth and perseverance has helped me build expertise in New York no fault claims and earn recognition like being enrolled in Who's Who of America.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I've ever received was to continue learning and continue pushing to evolve my own knowledge and wisdom. This advice has really shaped how I approach my career in insurance claim handling. It's encouraged me to pursue additional credentials, like obtaining about 12 state licenses after graduating with both my bachelor's and associate's degrees in just 3 years. This mindset of continuous growth and evolution has been instrumental in my success over the past 16 years in the field.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say not to count out any options. You know, I never thought I would go into insurance right after college, but by taking the opportunities, I really fell for something that I never knew I wanted to do. I fell in love with the randomness of claims and the constant changing nature of the work. What inspired me to continue was the customer appreciation - I enjoy being able to help people through a process that many are not knowledgeable in. It's a stressful encounter when people get in a car accident, so helping them walk through the steps and being able to give them peace of mind that I'm going to help them through the process has been incredibly fulfilling. So my advice is to stay open to unexpected paths because you might discover a passion you never knew you had.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
With AI coming into the picture, the evolution of claim handling and the process is changing drastically. The biggest shift is in how much we do compared to how much the customers can do now. Insurance policies and processes are evolving significantly, which presents both challenges and opportunities for those of us in the field. It's requiring us to adapt to new technologies and ways of working while still maintaining that personal touch that helps people through stressful situations.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me in my work and personal life are respect and communication. These principles guide how I interact with insurers, claimants, and everyone I work with in the insurance claim handling process. They're also central to my personal life, where I balance my career with running a farm with my two boys, raising chickens, making our own maple syrup, and enjoying outdoor activities like camping, canoeing, and hiking. Respect and communication are essential whether I'm helping someone through a stressful car accident claim or teaching my children about farm life.
