Her Story
About Brittany
I'm just a mother who loves to educate. I started in early childhood education, and then I had an incident that placed me into advocacy, and with the advocacy, I was placed into research, and that's where I am now. It's been interesting because I started on the opposite end of what I'm doing now. Daily, there's a lot of communication with different aspects of the team - whether it is actual participants, or the directors, or the facilitators - so there's a range of who I'm speaking with every day. One of my most notable professional achievements is being a speaker. For example, yesterday I was at City Hall as a backup to speak on behalf of the community that I serve. I love the flexibility of my career, and though pay is not top tier, it does provide a lot of meaning to my life, and that's more than I ever imagined that work could do. I've been published in articles within the city of Chicago.

Ten minutes with Brittany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my perseverance in that not quitting is a choice, and when you choose not to quit, then more comes to you. Sticking with my passion, whether it's old or new, is what I've treasured the most. I value helping others above all, both in work and personally, and that if pay is not helping me, I might as well be spending what I do have to helping guide others to help themselves - that brings me the most satisfaction.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Sticking with my passion, whether it's old or new, is what I've treasured the most.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be patient. It just takes time to get ahead. And I think even in my peer work that I do now, it's interesting to note that you don't know everything, and that's okay. Because it takes time to understand things, and things are constantly evolving and changing as well.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think one of the biggest challenges is funding right now, and that it is very minimal. But it's also just more reason to expand my network to understand a different side of things. And I think that has also been beneficial and helped in my patience.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Both work and professionally, I value helping others, above all. And that if pay is not helping me, so I might as well be spending what I do have to helping guide others to help themselves - that brings me the most satisfaction.
