Ten minutes with Brittany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to having the curiosity at a young age to be entrepreneurial. I was always encouraged to just learn different things and talk to a lot of people. I didn't grow up in a family that had a lot of connections. So I think having the curiosity and the drive to go and figure it out myself also attributed to some of the success that I've seen. Along the way in asking the right questions, in talking to the right people, in networking myself, I've met some really amazing learners and people that I can attribute my success to, even dating back to my fifth grade teacher in grade school. It was how I was raised and being the challenger of myself to figure out my next move without relying on a lot of other people.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Don't say no. Go after the things that you want even if it feels like you are climbing the biggest mountain because you are capable of doing more and you are capable of figuring it out. When you limit yourself from those opportunities or you do say no you don't know how to then move past and gain all the knowledge that you can.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just never give up. Some of the best moments for me have been when it's been hard and you want to give up because you don't think that you're qualified or you don't think you're ready or you don't think you can do it. Just never give up because one hour you might want to but then you realize the next hour you got through it and you can keep going. The second that you stop learning and you stop challenging yourself is the moment that you kind of become decent and continuing to challenge yourself and just never giving up of those dreams is just really important.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Some of the biggest challenges is understanding the way technology is moving is faster than we can even keep up with and it is redefining the entire patient journey. The opportunity is really thinking into learning how to adapt your marketing constantly to meet the needs of the patient and where people are consuming content. It is no longer true that you are creating one piece of content or one message to serve multiple people. People want personalized messaging and they want it in a way that feels relevant to them. That's a really hard thing to accomplish in a regulated industry when you have a lot of restrictions on what you can say but I think that's the greatest and the most fun thing to figure out and to challenge.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Compassion goes a really long way. Taking everybody at face value and listening and having the compassion and patience to listen to every perspective has definitely guided me in a lot of my career and in how I lead my teams because I do think hearing different perspectives is really important. Hard work, dedication, and having self-confidence is really important because if you don't have those things and you're not driving yourself to greater success as a leader it's hard to then inspire that of your team.
