Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brittany
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a combination of hard work, curiosity, and an openness to learning. I have been fortunate to have supportive leaders and mentors who invested in my growth, and I have also benefited from a bit of luck in being in the right place at the right time and staying open to opportunities. I have learned that raising my hand, even when an opportunity feels uncomfortable, exposes me to new experiences and to great people to learn from. When leaders saw that initiative, they supported me because I was eager to take on work outside my comfort zone.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Two pieces of advice have stayed with me, and the one I return to most is never to be the smartest person in the room, but always to be the kindest. To me, that means surrounding myself with people who challenge me and offer different perspectives, and treating others with respect, especially during difficult conversations. A leader can be confident, decisive, and firm in their convictions while still leading with kindness. That consistency creates a presence people gravitate toward, because they feel safe and know I will not react with frustration or anger. People remember how you make them feel long after they have forgotten what you said.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would tell them never to doubt that they belong in the room. I have changed industries, disciplines, and roles many times, and I am now in my fourth industry. Often I did not have a traditional background for the role, but I brought problem solving, collaboration, and critical thinking. Confidence does not come from knowing everything; it comes from trusting that you can learn, adapt, and build relationships that lead to mutual success.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
Artificial intelligence is the most significant disruptor in my field, transforming communications, change management, and program delivery. It is both exciting and disruptive, as it can accomplish impressive work in areas such as content creation and accelerating routine tasks. This creates a major opportunity for professionals who invest in the soft skills behind change management, program management, and leadership. AI cannot read a room, build trust, navigate uncertainty, or listen for what people are not saying. I believe the greatest opportunity is to use AI for what it does well while leaning into what it cannot replace, building value through authentic human connection.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Three principles guide me at work and at home: speak honestly, act with integrity, and build community. Honest communication builds trust, and people trust me because they know I am trying to do the right thing. By building community, I help create an environment where people feel respected and supported and share a sense of purpose. Together, these principles strengthen relationships and build trust, which I believe is paramount to getting anything done.
