Her Story

About Brittnay

Brittnay Sills, CMB®, is a mortgage banking professional and Business Development Manager at Toll Brothers Mortgage Company, bringing approximately 18 years of experience in real estate, including around 10 years in mortgage lending. Her career began during the 2008 financial crisis, when she entered the real estate field and developed experience in commercial real estate appraisal and sales. She later transitioned into mortgage lending through an opportunity with a national homebuilder, building expertise in homebuyer financing, mortgage origination, sales support, and lending operations. In her current role, she works across homebuilding and mortgage financing, helping coordinate lending solutions, support home sales, address documentation challenges, and identify potential issues that could affect closings.

A Certified Mortgage Banker, Brittnay is committed to professional development, consumer education, and responsible mortgage lending. Earning her CMB® designation was a significant professional milestone that required approximately seven years of preparation and study. She extends her commitment to education through her work as an instructor for the Mortgage Bankers Association's School of Loan Origination, where she helps mortgage professionals build foundational knowledge of loan origination, lending regulations, mortgage products, and consumer-focused practices. She is also involved with the Mortgage Bankers Association, the Building Industry Association–Bay Area, and the Mortgage Action Alliance. Her professional recognition includes the 2023 Mortgage Professional of the Year – MAME Award and the Mortgage Bankers Association's Path to Diversity Scholarship.

Brittnay attributes her growth to perseverance, curiosity, mentorship, and a willingness to learn from every experience. She encourages emerging professionals, particularly women entering mortgage lending, to recognize that consistent progress matters and that every interaction can provide an opportunity to develop new skills. Looking ahead, she is interested in expanding her contribution to affordable lending, consumer education, and initiatives that help first-time and entry-level buyers overcome barriers to homeownership. Outside of work, she enjoys camping, hiking, paddleboarding, and exploring Northern California's outdoors. Through her combination of industry experience, educational leadership, and commitment to consumer protection, Brittnay aims to help make the mortgage process more understandable and homeownership more attainable.

I attribute my success to perseverance, curiosity, continuous learning, and the guidance of mentors who have supported my professional development. Throughout my career, I have embraced new opportunities, adapted to changing circumstances, and remained committed to expanding my knowledge. Earning my Certified Mortgage Banker designation required approximately seven years of study and preparation, reinforcing the importance of persistence and dedication. I also believe that learning from every interaction and sharing knowledge with others have been essential to my growth.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to remember that slow progress is still progress. Treat every day as a learning opportunity and make an effort to learn something new whenever you can. Stay committed to growing your knowledge, remain open to new experiences, and trust that consistent effort will help you become a more well-rounded professional over time.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges in mortgage lending is helping consumers navigate complex financing options while addressing housing affordability and barriers to homeownership. Buyers need clear, reliable information to understand their options and make informed financial decisions. I see significant opportunities to expand affordable lending, support first-time and entry-level homebuyers, and strengthen consumer education. I am particularly interested in contributing to initiatives that make financing more accessible and help more individuals and families achieve homeownership. I also believe ongoing professional education is essential to maintaining high standards and ensuring mortgage professionals are equipped to serve consumers effectively.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I value integrity, continuous learning, perseverance, consumer protection, professional excellence, and service to others. I believe mortgage professionals have a responsibility to understand the products they offer and communicate financing options clearly so consumers can make informed decisions. Education is especially important to me because knowledgeable professionals can make a meaningful difference in the homebuying experience. I am also motivated by the opportunity to help individuals overcome financial barriers and expand access to homeownership.
