Her Story

About Brittney

Brittney Brown, Director of Mission Advancement

Brittney Brown brings over a decade of nonprofit leadership experience rooted in a deep commitment to equity, dignity, and compassionate service. A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Brittney began her career in direct outreach to individuals experiencing unsheltered homelessness—work that grounded her in trauma-informed care and shaped her holistic approach to service. She later served as Housing Director at Safe Haven Family Shelter, where she led a team dedicated to securing stable, long-term housing solutions for families navigating crises.

In November 2023, Brittney joined The Store as Director of Mission Advancement, where she now leads all development, donor relations, and external partnerships. Her work is instrumental in cultivating the generous, steadfast support that fuels The Store’s mission—from major philanthropic gifts to community-driven campaigns. With a warm relational approach, Brittney ensures that every donor and partner is not only engaged but deeply connected to the transformative impact their support makes possible. She is especially passionate about The Store’s model, which centers love, dignity, and choice in every interaction with neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Brittney continues to build bridges between generous community members and the mission at the heart of The Store: ensuring that every family has access to healthy food and the opportunity to thrive.

The Store distinguishes itself by offering a unique shopping experience that upholds the dignity of its customers. Unlike traditional food pantries, The Store invites shoppers to choose their foods from a variety of fresh, healthy options. This model ensures that families have access to meat, dairy, and fresh produce—often hard to find in traditional food assistance programs.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittney

01What do you attribute your success to?

One hundred percent is only due to God and His direction in my life. I can't ever take the credit for anything that happens in my career. It's always Him that provides. He leads me in His direction and I take the next step that He gives. He always seems to provide more abundantly than I could even hope or dream. Ephesians 3:20-21

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Before you figure out what work you want to do in nonprofit, go volunteer at some different organizations and see what sparks the most joy in your heart. That's where you need to be. Don't ever get yourself concreted into just one thing. It will continue to evolve.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is resources and the high cost of food due to inflation, with our budget nearly four million dollars. Opportunities come from the beautiful mission that excites people to support with dignity and community for families.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, kindness and compassion, and integrity. It's so important to be a person of high integrity and a person of your word.
