Her Story

About Brittney

Brittney Standridge has spent the past 7 years working in water treatment in Perry, Georgia. She began her career as a water treatment operator and advanced to her current role, where she focuses on maintenance and process control at water plants. Standridge performs supervisory duties, monitors system charts, ensures compliance through sampling, and handles paperwork and emails. Her path into the field was shaped by growing up around the industry with her father, a county water treatment operator, combined with on-the-job training after attending some college without completing a degree. She recently earned her Class 1 water license, the highest level available, and received the Top Ops Award from GAWP in 2024. Standridge is a member of GAWP and AWWA. She attributes her success to overcoming doubts as a woman in a male-dominated field, which motivated her to prove her capabilities to other women and her daughter. Standridge advises young women entering the industry to pursue certifications quickly without using life events as excuses and to recognize that being a mother does not prevent success in the role.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittney

01What do you attribute your success to?

People doubting me because I'm a woman in a male-dominated field made me push harder to prove to other women and my daughter that you can do whatever you want to no matter your background.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't let being a woman stop you, especially in this male-dominated career field.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't let anything stop you just because you're a female. Get your certifications and licenses quickly without using life events as excuses. Even being a mom you can still do the job.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities to move up to project manager or area manager by working hard. The challenge is proving to others that I know what I'm doing.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Always be honest. Care about other people and be caring. Always look at the bright side and don't sweat the small stuff.
