Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brittney

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the people I work with. Your job is your life, right? I mean, you have your home life, but you have your work life too, and there definitely needs to be a balance, but I've worked with really good people, I've hired really good people, and they have made me successful because they're successful. So that's what I would contribute that to.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Don't judge a book by its cover. What led to where anything is at this point, whether it's a personal thing, whether it's a work thing, whether it's anything in life in general, it's, you know, take things with a grain of salt, and work things through.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Keep your chin up. It can be hard, and it's a male-dominant world. It really is in the workforce, and as a woman, being headstrong and confident is huge. You don't want to be arrogant, but you need to be competent. If you have an opinion, express your opinion. It may not be listened to, but at least you can give that opinion, and at least for yourself, you can feel the self-worth of it, knowing you have put forth effort into what you're doing.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is payroll's not one that gets a lot of credit. You only get credit when things go bad. Money's a very personal thing. Wants their paycheck, and so it's me being the manager and overseeing when things go wrong, making sure that I make things go right.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Being honest and truthful, and caring, and understanding.
