Brittny Hovland serves as Senior Vice President of Operational Support at Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation, where she leads enterprise-wide frontline support functions that enable mortgage professionals to succeed. In this role, she oversees branch support, frontline IT support, point-of-sale systems, training, and employee onboarding initiatives. With a focus on building scalable operations and enhancing the employee experience, Brittny works to ensure teams have the resources, support, and tools needed to deliver exceptional service across the organization.
Brittny has built an impressive 10-year career with Fairway, beginning in 2016 as a Branch Support Specialist and advancing through roles including Team Lead, Assistant Vice President, Vice President, and ultimately Senior Vice President. Her career progression reflects her dedication to operational excellence, leadership development, and continuous improvement. Prior to joining Fairway, Brittny spent seven years with another mortgage organization, where she began as a receptionist after graduating college and progressed into roles as a processor and loan partner. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management with a minor in Human Resources, providing a strong foundation for her leadership in operations and people development.
Beyond her professional achievements, Brittny is deeply committed to service and giving back to her community. For the past 10 years, she has volunteered with Brown Paws Rescue, dedicating her time to fostering and rescuing dogs. Her passion for helping others extends into both her professional and personal life, where she embraces servant leadership, teamwork, and creating environments where people and organizations can thrive. 01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is to never ask anyone to do something I would not be willing to do myself. This principle has shaped my approach to leadership by reminding me of the importance of humility, empathy, and leading by example. I believe true leadership is rooted in service, and practicing servant leadership means supporting others, understanding their challenges, and empowering them to succeed. By staying grounded and approachable, I strive to build trust, foster collaboration, and create an environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering my industry is to embrace the discomfort that comes with growth and new challenges. Being comfortable with being uncomfortable allows you to build confidence, develop resilience, and continuously expand your skills. I encourage you to take the time to learn the fundamentals, master the simplest concepts, and never underestimate the value of a strong foundation. Success is built through curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to keep learning, and by focusing on the basics, you can develop the expertise and confidence needed to excel.
03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The biggest challenge and opportunity in my field right now is navigating the rapid evolution brought about by the introduction of artificial intelligence. While AI presents tremendous opportunities to improve efficiency, innovation, and decision-making, one of the key challenges is encouraging adoption and helping teams embrace new tools and ways of working. Successfully integrating AI requires a willingness to adapt, continuous learning, and effective change management. By approaching these advancements with curiosity and an open mindset, organizations can leverage AI to create meaningful improvements and drive future growth.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that are most important to me in both my work and personal life are open communication, trust, and honesty. I believe strong relationships and successful teams are built on transparency, mutual respect, and the ability to have meaningful conversations. I value involving my team in decisions because collaboration creates a sense of ownership, encourages diverse perspectives, and leads to better outcomes.
