She is dedicated to supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals and encouraging others to ask questions, seek guidance, and continue learning throughout their careers. Outside of work, Brooke enjoys traveling with family and friends, especially beach vacations, and spending time gardening. Her Interview
Ten minutes with Brooke
01What do you attribute your success to?
I would say my mom was very influential in me striving to do more and more. She was the first person in our family to go to college, and so she was very influential. I also had the same leader that I reported to for over 20 years, and they really helped me to find my path and helped guide my way through that.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
I would say being patient, and putting in the time, and determination can get you just about anywhere.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would say to ask a professional a question is the biggest compliment you can pay them, and oftentimes, that will open doors for them, whether it be job opportunities, or increased level of educational experiences.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
There are so many opportunities in our field. There's a national shortage of respiratory therapists, and the opportunities are out there. Almost any hospital organization will pay for someone to go to school 100%, because they are needed so badly. I think my challenges are going to be as the career changes and we're more focused on the outpatient side to prevent patients from being in the hospital setting. There will be less of us in the hospital and more of us on the outpatient side, and really navigating how we can best serve those patients on the outpatient side.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
I would say honesty. I appreciate someone who's direct, someone who's approachable.
