Her Story

About Brooke

I grew up in a very athletic family - my dad played professional football in Finland, and my brother played at USC, and my mom was very athletic as well - but I was the only artist in my family, and it just kind of came naturally to me. I'm really grateful for my parents putting me into art classes at a young age, because not a lot of parents want their children to pursue art as a career. I've always had a passion for art in general, doing studio art, painting, drawing, and ceramics growing up. My art teacher in high school really encouraged me, and so did my parents, to pursue art as a degree. I got a scholarship to Chapman University in Orange County, California, and pursued graphic design for my major. I graduated in 3 years due to the fact that I had a bunch of APs from my high school classes. I've done design and artwork ever since, and now I own my own graphic design business where I craft vision and create art to elevate brands with soul and strategy. I do anything from branding and logo design to corporate flyers, marketing materials, and advertising, as well as social media graphics, banners, and any promotional material - basically anything that requires graphic design. One of my most notable achievements was being the creative director for a golf apparel brand, and I got to work with the Orlando Magic basketball team and design their first line of golf wear, pairing basketball and golf through the company that I was a creative director at.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

My professors would tell us to not take things too personally, so not getting so attached to your work that you can't accept constructive criticism. There's always room for growth.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would just encourage her to have fun with it. It's such a unique industry, and every day is a new challenge, and you get to be creative and come up with new concepts and ideas. I would encourage anybody that loves design to get into this field, because it has been absolutely fun every single day that I've been out of college, and even designing through college.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I would say the biggest challenge recently would probably be designing against AI, and competing with AI. A lot of companies are reverting to using that instead of using graphic designers that have their degrees in this field. But I truly believe that it's a fun challenge, because I think nothing's gonna beat how a human is able to be creative.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I think definitely keeping Christ at the center of all my design and interactions with business. I feel like that's extremely important. I feel like just waking up with joy that stems from my relationship with the Lord, and just working through the creative nature that he has designed me to have. I actually have a tattoo that says, Created to Create, and I just feel like it's important to find my heart and soul in all of my design pieces, and just being very grateful for the gift that God's given me in this field.
