Her Story
About Brooke
I've been in the legal field for about 8 years now, working as a paralegal at Southern Company. In my role, I review contracts, NDAs, master agreements, and build templates - basically whatever the attorney needs at the time across a bunch of different types of legal agreements. Before entering law, I spent 5 years as a sales rep at Coca-Cola, but I always wanted to go to law school and was kind of bored in sales, so I made the transition. I'm very task-oriented and detail-oriented, and what I love most about my work is helping people and solving problems. I'm also a registered neutral with the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, serving as a court-appointed mediator. I just graduated from Atlanta's John Marshall Law School this past Saturday and I'm now preparing for the bar exam in July, studying 6 days a week, 8 to 10 hours a day. Once I pass the bar, I want to work as a sports and entertainment attorney - maybe for a sports agency, a sports team, a record label, or a firm that does sports and entertainment work. If not that, then corporate in-house work for a corporation.

Ten minutes with Brooke
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my ability to self-motivate and stay determined, even when I want to quit. It's about being willing to keep going when things get hard, and just pushing myself forward. I'm very self-driven and I know what I want to accomplish at the end of the day, so I have to keep going or I'll never accomplish my dreams. It's really just about having that self-determination and being able to push myself, no matter what challenges come up.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Just keep going, even when it's hard. It will get hard, but don't give up. Just keep swimming, I guess. Keep pushing forward no matter what.
