Her Story

About Brooke

My professional journey has been anything but traditional. I started out wanting to be a professional French horn player before pivoting to industrial engineering and data analytics. I spent about 5 years in the retail grocery space doing labor management and staffing work before making the big decision to transition into healthcare, which I'm extremely proud of. Now, as the manager of PI Labor at HCA for about a year and a half, my biggest responsibility is assisting CFOs in 17 hospitals across our division. We set budgets at the beginning of the year and then support the CFOs and their department leaders in checking adherence to that budget and learning the systems that hold staffing information. I also personally manage the scheduling software rollout for Timpani, assisting nursing leadership with the day-to-day tasks of maintaining that for our division. My two main areas of expertise are labor management and large-scale software rollouts. While I'm an industrial engineer by day, by night I'm a full-time music producer - I love producing house music, R&B, and pop, and I work with artists in my city to help them with their careers. The music industry is still absolutely part of my life.

01What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

I'd definitely say it's similar for kind of everyone - learning how to integrate AI into my day-to-day. It's about utilizing it as a tool and learning how to harness its power to make my jobs not necessarily easier, but more effective. AI is not going anywhere, so you have to constantly be learning. With every other day there's new software or updates to keep up with.

02What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

I'd say my biggest value has to be integrity. I would say integrity, having a growth mindset, being flexible and open-minded - I'd say those are my biggest things that cross-pollinate completely my work and personal life.
