Her Story

About Brynn

Brynn Nieukirk is the Marketing Manager at J.B. Steel in Tucson, Arizona, a role she stepped into in April of this year. She leads the company's digital marketing efforts, overseeing social media strategy, SEO, and website management, while also driving internal communications and client engagement. Beyond day-to-day marketing operations, Brynn plays a key role in promoting J.B. Steel's Employee Stock Ownership Program to staff and regularly participates in site tours to document projects and build out the company's portfolio, helping ensure the brand's story is told clearly and consistently across every touchpoint. Before joining J.B. Steel, Brynn spent three years as a Marketing Specialist at Geeks 2 You in Tucson, Arizona, building on earlier experience as a Social Media Analyst at PLUS Communications and a Social Media Manager Intern at ArtRKL in Miami. She holds a background in Communications and Marketing from Southern New Hampshire University and began her academic journey at the University of North Dakota studying Communication and Media Studies, where she also competed as a collegiate volleyball athlete. That athletic background instilled in her a lasting sense of discipline and resilience that continues to shape how she approaches her work today. Brynn credits much of her professional success to the drive she cultivated early in life, crediting her younger self for dreaming big and setting the foundation for the opportunities she now has. She is guided by a core set of values, authenticity, gratitude, and continuous growth, that inform how she shows up both at work and in her personal life. As a woman in the traditionally male-dominated construction industry, she's a strong advocate for the idea that new voices and fresh perspectives have real power to shape the field's future, particularly as a wave of experienced professionals begin to retire and make room for new ideas.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Brynn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute much of my success to the way I was raised, along with the drive and resilience I built within myself from a young age. I've always been someone willing to put in the work toward whatever goal I set my mind to, and I try to stay grateful to my younger self for dreaming big and laying the groundwork for the opportunities I have today.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best guidance I've ever received didn't come as a single piece of advice, but through the example set by my parents, Keely and Matt Nieukirk. From an early age, they encouraged me to dream boldly and pursue the possibilities that inspired me, no matter how ambitious they seemed. Their belief in me gave me the confidence to take chances, embrace new opportunities, and stay committed to the goals I set for myself, and that mindset has carried directly into how I approach my career. Their influence taught me that resilience and character matter just as much as skill or strategy. Having people who believe in you can make all the difference when you're pursuing something meaningful, and that lesson has stayed with me throughout my professional journey. I carry that guidance with me as I continue to grow in my career. The confidence to chase ambitious goals, the resilience to navigate challenges, and the gratitude I feel for the opportunities in front of me are all rooted in the foundation my parents helped build, and it continues to inspire me to dream bigger and pursue those dreams with purpose.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

To young women stepping into construction, a historically male-dominated industry, I'd say that your voice and your perspective matter. You're allowed to take up space and bring your ideas to the table. Over the past decade, this industry has shifted significantly, and women are now taking on roles where they are running job sites. We're part of reshaping this industry, and I feel fortunate to have a front-row seat and be a part of that change.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest opportunity I see right now is for people to adapt and bring fresh perspectives into an industry built on a long history of expertise and tradition. As many experienced professionals in construction approach retirement, it opens the door for a new generation to step in, contribute new ideas, and help shape where the field goes next. With that being said, one of the biggest challenges in construction marketing is getting companies to embrace new ways of telling their story while staying true to the industry's roots.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, gratitude, and continuous growth. I try to approach both my personal and professional life with curiosity and a willingness to keep learning. I also believe work is only one part of who I am. having a fulfilling personal life gives me the energy and purpose to show up as my best self professionally. Most importantly, I want to stay true to who I am, appreciate the people and opportunities around me, and never stop growing.
