Ten minutes with Bukola
01What do you attribute your success to?
My success is the result of three things: resilience, continuous learning, and relationships.
I have never been afraid to take on challenges outside of my comfort zone. Throughout my career, I have consistently raised my hand for opportunities that stretched my capabilities, even when I didn't have every answer. I believe growth happens when we are willing to embrace uncertainty and remain committed to learning.
I also attribute much of my success to the incredible mentors, colleagues, and leaders who invested in me along the way. No one succeeds alone. Building authentic relationships and treating people with respect has opened doors that credentials alone never could.
Most importantly, I have remained grounded in my purpose. When your work is connected to something larger than yourself, perseverance becomes easier during difficult seasons.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
"Do the job before you have the title."
Early in my career, a mentor encouraged me to stop focusing on the next promotion and instead focus on becoming the person capable of succeeding in that role. That advice changed my perspective entirely.
Titles eventually follow demonstrated capability. When you consistently deliver value, solve problems, develop expertise, and operate with integrity, opportunities tend to find you. Some of the most significant advancements in my career occurred because I was already operating at the next level before anyone formally recognized it.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
First, become exceptionally good at your craft. Competence builds confidence, and confidence creates opportunities.
Second, don't wait until you feel completely ready. Women often underestimate their abilities and delay pursuing opportunities because they are seeking perfection. Growth comes from stepping into challenges before you feel fully prepared.
Third, seek both mentors and sponsors. Mentors provide guidance, but sponsors advocate for you when you are not in the room. Both are essential.
Finally, never diminish yourself to fit someone else's expectations. Your unique perspective, experiences, and leadership style are strengths. Authenticity and professionalism are not mutually exclusive.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the greatest challenges in healthcare today is ensuring that scientific innovation translates into earlier diagnosis and better patient outcomes. We are generating more data than ever before, yet many patients with complex or rare conditions remain undiagnosed or undertreated.
At the same time, this represents one of our greatest opportunities. Advances in diagnostics, real-world evidence, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine have the potential to transform how we identify and manage disease.
Within Medical Affairs specifically, there is a tremendous opportunity to move beyond traditional scientific exchange and become true strategic partners in healthcare. Medical Affairs organizations are uniquely positioned to connect clinical evidence, provider education, patient needs, and real-world insights to drive meaningful improvements in care.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is at the foundation of everything I do. Whether in business, leadership, or personal relationships, trust is built through honesty and consistency.
Excellence is another core value. I believe in pursuing high standards, continuous improvement, and delivering quality work even when no one is watching.
Service is equally important. Leadership is not about personal achievement; it is about creating opportunities for others, solving problems, and contributing to something greater than yourself.
Finally, faith and family keep me grounded. Professional success is meaningful, but it is most rewarding when shared with the people who matter most. My family reminds me that while careers evolve, character and relationships are the true measures of a life well lived.
