Her Story
About Caitlin
I founded Marsh Strategic Consulting, LLC to give candidates who aren't your typical pipeline candidates an affordable way to run for office. What I learned from my own Senate campaign is that you can't have merit-based candidates if no one can find them - everything becomes about pipeline candidates. Through my consulting work, I use back-end software that helps me integrate the process and streamline everything, giving candidates the affordable option to actually run for office for a nominal fee instead of having to pay $40,000 or $50,000. I offer everything they need - strategy, marketing, social media, everything - all for at most a few thousand dollars for statewide offices, and it's a complete plan for the longevity of the campaign. I know the focus needs to be on getting paid to reach out to the voters, because that is how you win an election, not raising money to pay for someone to give you a plan. I also offer a monthly retainer if candidates want me to continue my service. My main focus is giving strategic analysis that is adaptable and integrates with the longevity of a campaign for candidates who don't have the same political pedigree or pipeline, who forged their own way and just need help to get there. This gives them the ability to have the same adaptive strategy that the machine-funded campaigns have. My goal is getting good candidates in office that actually care about their constituents to improve not just living in North Carolina, but living across the country.

Ten minutes with Caitlin
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my kids. That sounds simple, but I'm doing what I do because I want my daughter to never have to be in the position that I was in. I want other young women, other people's daughters, to understand that they don't have to stay in a negative position. They can achieve whatever they want to achieve. They're made for more. You always are, and that's what fuels me.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Circumstances will never define your capabilities.
The noise will always be there, there will always be a reason not to, there will always be those who say you can’t: do it anyways. The only opinion that matters is yours; who you see yourself as.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Don't listen to people. Never let someone tell you what you can't do. Show them what you can do. Your circumstances will never define your possibilities in this life, or your capabilities. It is always going to go back to how bad do you want what you want? You just go out and do it unapologetically. It is very hard for men to get in this field, but for women it's more strenuous. But the thing about it is, once you mark your path and you forge your way through in this male-dominated field, you are a gem. You're one in a hundred. Just be unapologetic and go after what you want. It'll open doors for you. You play the game, and you'll win.
04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Morality and following through on your word. I always say “I am a great friend to have, but a terrible enemy”, show loyalty & care for those who stand by you, who helped you, don’t forget them.
