Her Story

About Caitlin

Caitlin Wheeler is the lead of her department in aircraft deburring. She has worked in the field for four years and has served in her current role since July 5, 2022. In this position she oversees the removal of flaws, tabs, and sharp edges from airplane parts through deburring, de-tabbing, and edge-breaking processes to confirm every component meets required specifications and quality standards. Wheeler holds several credentials, including a certificate in BAC5300, supervisor training, a state certificate for PPE, and lockout tagout training. She completed her education at the School of Hard Knocks. She credits her success to the motivation provided by her children, her growing recognition of the job's role in ensuring plane safety, and her perfectionist drive to certify only parts she would personally fly on. Wheeler emphasizes honesty by immediately reporting any errors, even on expensive components, and she consistently gives 100 percent effort, does work correctly the first time, refuses to give up, and remains dedicated to excellence. She advises young women entering the industry to persist through initial challenges, noting that it took her four years to reach her current level and that the physically demanding work fosters a profound sense of strength and empowerment.

Ten minutes with Caitlin

01What do you attribute your success to?

My kids motivate me to work hard and give them everything I didn't have. While working, I realized the importance of the job in ensuring plane safety, and my perfectionist nature drives me to make a difference by certifying parts I would fly on myself.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't give up if not succeeding right away. It took me 4 years. This dirty job makes you feel incredibly strong and empowered as a woman, both career-wise and in self-image. Keep going because it's rewarding and you can do anything.

03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honesty - always fess up to mistakes even on expensive parts. Give 100% effort, do it right the first time, never give up, and stay dedicated to becoming the best.
