With just over two years in the field, she began her career path with marketing work for campus departments and businesses during college. After graduation, Miller participated in a rotational management and sales program in electrical distribution, which led her to focus on marketing and expansionary projects. She has created marketing structures and vendor campaign packages tailored to customer interests. Miller studied communications and economics and completed courses through the National Association for Electrical Distributors (NAED), of which she is a member. She attributes her success to being open to new challenges and voicing interest in roles that did not previously exist in her region. Miller values family, community, integrity, and open-mindedness, and supports initiatives such as Trees Atlanta and Red Cross donations.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Caitlyn

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to proactively looking for ways to get involved in new things and being open to challenges. My current job description didn't exist in my region until I voiced interest in doing it. New ideas come about by being someone open to different things and seeing how far we can take them.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

A lot of times the first step is not necessarily what you've envisioned but the first thing available. There can be resistance to going into something not exactly imagined, whether going out of school or stepping into adulthood. But anything can be a step in the right direction if you approach it the right way.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

There are opportunities because contractors and electricians are slower to adapt to change, so ground to be made in adopting technology like CRM. This makes it easier for newcomers to contribute. The reluctance to change also presents a challenge as people prefer sticking with what they know, so you have to sell the benefits of new programs.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Family and community are definitely important. Also integrity and open-mindedness.
