Her Story

About Camila

Camila Bessa is a Quality Assurance professional with around 10 years of experience in the medical device and pharmaceutical industry. She currently serves as a Quality Assurance Manager at Stevanato Group in the United States, where she is responsible for the release of commercial batches of sterilized products and ensuring compliance with strict regulatory and quality standards. Her expertise spans ISO certification and customer audits, internal auditing, supplier and equipment qualification, as well as managing change controls, CAPA, deviations, and non-conformances.

Her career with Stevanato Group has been marked by steady international progression across multiple sites and countries. She began her journey at the company’s facility in Brazil, where she worked for five years before relocating to Italy for approximately 2.5 years in a Quality Project Coordinator role. She later transitioned to the United States, where she continues to advance her leadership in quality assurance. This global experience has strengthened her understanding of diverse regulatory environments and reinforced her commitment to maintaining product integrity across all stages of manufacturing.

Camila holds a strong academic foundation in chemistry, including a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, along with international studies in Industrial Chemistry in Italy. She has also pursued advanced training in quality engineering and health technologies related to medical devices. Passionate about patient safety and product impact, she takes pride in seeing the pharmaceutical products she helps release used in healthcare settings, and she considers her involvement in COVID-19 vaccine-related projects during 2020 as one of her most meaningful professional accomplishments.

Ten minutes with Camila

01What do you attribute your success to?

I never stop learning. I think one thing that definitely drives me is trying to get motivation on a daily basis to ask myself what can I do best. I know it might sound like a cliche, but that's truly how I think. I love reading, traveling, meeting new cultures and new people, and I'm always taking courses in my area of medical devices and pharma companies because I really enjoy learning more and feeling that I can do more. Whether it's being with my family, eating different foods, doing sports like rhythmic gymnastics, or pursuing advanced education, I turn every experience into an opportunity to grow and excel. What keeps me going is feeling that what I do can make a difference. I feel proud when I see our finished product on shelves, knowing that the vials we provide to pharmaceutical companies will be filled with drugs that will be used in hospitals. That feeling that my work can make a real impact is what motivates me every day.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would recommend what I did myself that helped me when I was starting my career. I started in a different area working in the lab, and one thing that I did was to start building my network in the company I was previously working in and try to understand what I could definitely like or enjoy working with. It was when I started talking and meeting new people that made me think differently about my career and made me completely change direction. In the past 10 years, this is what I did, because I believe I met the right person who gave me the right directions at that time. Otherwise, I may have worked in a different area forever. So I believe building a good network can help you first of all see what you like, what you enjoy, and what you're passionate about when you're starting out. I think it's really important, especially for those who are young in their career, to have a good mentor. Having a good network helps in both giving the right directions and having a good mentor.
