Her Story

About Camila

I'm Brazilian and mostly grew up in Brazil, attending schools there. When I was younger, I had the opportunity to move to the United States and graduated high school, but at the time my parents couldn't afford college because I didn't have my residency and was considered an international student with higher costs. So I went back to Brazil and attended law school there for five years, earning my bachelor's degree from what was at the time one of the top schools in the country. From there, I went into banking, compliance, and risk management. I started by interning at Goldman Sachs in 2013, and it wasn't in my interest to pursue practicing law traditionally, so I stuck to consulting roles in the compliance, onboarding, and risk management field. I obtained several certifications connected to Brazil's trading market, Bovespa, and also got a certification through one of our biggest banks, BTG Pactual, in Financial and Capital Markets in 2021. I finally got my United States residency in 2022, and that's when I relocated to Arizona. I started working as an onboarding associate for Amazon, but they ended up closing and eliminating that department altogether, so we got moved to seller support, and that's how I got where I am today. Throughout my whole journey, I've been really blessed with my legal background because it helps me walk through legislation and understand the regulatory part of every job I've had. I have the soft skills to translate the complexity of regulations and the need for being compliant, whether it's preventing money laundering or being compliant to Amazon's policies and SOPs so sellers can continue to successfully sell their items on the website.

Ten minutes with Camila

01What do you attribute your success to?

I'm a big believer in God, so I do believe that He's opened the path and guided my way. But beyond that, I think being able to build relationships has been crucial, starting from college when I was able to make friends with a person that worked at Goldman Sachs. From there on, I just had the opportunity to be in touch with some really brilliant people and network in that field. I also attribute my success to being really good technically and knowing that through the jobs I've held over the years, I've stood out as someone who had a good regulatory background. That helped me stand out and be a point of contact for projects and for opportunities that otherwise I may have not had the chance to do.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

Keep learning, and do not be afraid to talk to people. And when I say people, I mean in the corporate environment, do not be afraid to politely present yourself to a director, to a vice president. Do not be afraid to ask questions and to let them know that you're working, that you would be interested in a certain area. Always be open. Always learn. Always learn.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't believe other people's view of who you are professionally or what place you should occupy. Take feedback and criticism with a grain of salt, and always believe in yourself.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

When thinking about work, my most importante values are integrity, loyalty, and driving results. As for my personal life, my driving values are faith, integrity, reciprocity, freedom, and growth.
