Her Story
About Camille
I'm a student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where I'm pursuing a quad major in international business, management, marketing, and human resource management. I've been in the business field for about 3 years now. Coming from a southern state like Texas, I really see that the business field is mostly primarily built up on men, and I think I really just wanted to break that field and get into it myself. I've always had a passion for the ups and downs that come with business, and being a woman in the corporate industry just really inspired me and made me want to join that. My typical day looks like class and at least one meeting, and then probably most days a professional event as well for any of the clubs that I'm a part of. I'm currently Vice President of the Society for Human Resource Management, an active brother and former two-time board member of Delta Sigma Pi (which is an international business fraternity), and an active member of the American Marketing Association and the International Business Organization. I'm on a full-ride scholarship for the next 2 years of my college career, and I complete around 60 community service hours for that scholarship, on top of the 15 hours that each club also has. I work with organizations like the Ronald McDonald House and the Arthritis Foundation every single year. I'm projected to graduate in May 2027.

01What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best piece of advice I've ever received was specifically about being a woman, and it was that women have more strengths when it comes to working in a business field. If you do rely on your strengths, you don't make yourself small, and you just have your personality be big and wonderful, along with your talents and intelligence and skills that you've learned, you're gonna go further than anybody else can. This advice really resonated with me because coming from a southern state like Texas, I wanted to break into a field that is primarily built up on men, and this guidance helped me understand that my unique perspective and strengths as a woman are actually advantages in the business world.
02What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
I think there's so many amazing opportunities right now. Currently, a lot of people are hiring for summer and fall already, but I think you should apply to as many different fields as you can. There's so many opportunities for internships, and there's so many opportunities just starting at a really basic work level, like just a beginner work level. It just comes from looking into what company fits your personality and your values, and I think if you just utilize that, then you will always have opportunities. The key is finding companies that align with your values and being willing to start at entry-level positions to gain experience.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
A lot of my values, whenever it comes to the workplace and the reason why I chose my majors, number one, I think respect, and that's specifically culturally. Being an international business major, you have to learn different cultures, you have to do study abroad, and we really have to focus on the cultural advancements and cultural acceptance. So I think that's one of my main values is cultural acceptance and respect. And then I also, of course, think discipline, hard work, and community are my other values. Living in Hawaii, that's a lot of the big values that each company has is just community and respect for one another, and of course, hard work. I think the hard work kind of relates to having four majors. I just love always putting in hard work and having discipline, so those values really fall in line with the companies that I'm looking for.
