Her Story
About Camryn
I've been in healthcare for about 8 years and in mental health for nearly 3 years. I started as a CNA in 2018 working with elderly in nursing homes and assisted living for five and a half years, then did ABA therapy with kids with autism. I joined Wellspring as my first mental health role as MC1 and was promoted to MC2 within a year working with adolescent girls. Now I'm per diem at Wellspring and full-time as a Millie counselor at Yale Children's working with boys and girls ages 4-15 with various diagnoses including spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities, and GCF cases.
Her Interview
Ten minutes with Camryn
01What do you attribute your success to?
I owe my mental toughness and ability to handle situations to my dad and parents who raised me to be tough. Losing someone very close to me from suicide also kick-started me into making a difference in the mental health field.
02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Be open to really diving in and allowing yourself to learn as much as you can. Take time to orient if needed because things change fast. Understand the deeper layers of trauma and why things make a child tick, like peeling back an onion, rather than just surface issues.
03What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Treating each person with the same level of kindness and respect. Kindness is free and I preach it often. Every kid is equally important whether they have diagnoses or not.
