Her Interview

Ten minutes with Candace

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to betting on myself regardless of what others think. One thing people have always said, and it's been my downfall sometimes, is that I will bet on myself regardless. Sometimes you're the only one that's gonna believe in you. You will have people all day long tell you that yeah, you should try this, you should do this, and they will support sometimes from afar. But if you believe in yourself and what you know you're capable of doing, and you truly believe in what it is that you want to do, failing isn't always failing. You might not see the reward up front, but the back end, the reward on the back end is ultimately when you know you're there and you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. I'm a true Sagittarius free spirit who believes you should do every dream that you want to do. I don't care what anyone thinks. You'll never be able to tell me that I didn't do everything I wanted to do, and that's what I pride myself on. I tell my clients that too - if it's something that you want to do, you should be able to do it. At the end of the day, I'm the only one that has to answer to me and what I've done in life. I think 45 right now, we are rocking it. We are the 20-year-olds of the era and the century, because we are unapologetic, and we do not care. I truly do not care what others think. I do not care at all.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

“Make sure that you can look back and say that’s mine and no one can take it!”

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would tell you to bet on yourself regardless. Sometimes you're the only one that's gonna believe in you. You will have people all day long, even when it comes to booking you and everything else, tell you that yeah, you should try this, you should do this, and they will support sometimes from afar. But one thing is, if you believe in yourself and what you know you're capable of doing, and you truly believe in what it is that you want to do, failing isn't always failing. You might not see the reward up front, but the reward on the back end is ultimately when you know you're doing what you're supposed to be doing. I'm a true Sagittarius spirit who believes you should do every dream that you want to do. I don't care what anyone thinks. You'll never be able to tell me that I didn't do everything I wanted to do, and that's what I pride myself on. I tell my clients that too - if it's something that you want to do, you should be able to do it.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge is, or one of the biggest challenges it might be people understanding more that coaches are actually very helpful. And we actually do different things if you kind of dig and ask questions for what you actually want to accomplish. So sometimes I think people miss valuable parts of different coaches because a lot of us have a uniqueness/expertise in certain things that we may add on or do, but sometimes you just don’t get people to fully commit to all of it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The most important value to me is self-empowerment and independence. I want women to feel empowered and good about themselves first, not have a dependency on others to define our worth. I think another value is unyielding grit. I able to push through harder problems, rather difficult or not. I want people to know that you don't have to worry about what other people think about you, if you’re doing what’s right. Admitting I'm not always right is what I also have no problem sitting with, and sometimes I gotta stop and do my own work, but I want people to know it's about, in your era, how you are supposed to feel. I set my own goals. It doesn't have to be about recognition or awards. I love people in my space who want to do the work and believe in the love that encompasses it all.
