About Candace
My career journey has been one of continuous learning and growth across different industries with the same skill set. I started my first grown-up job at a bank when I was young, just after high school, working as a teller for 2 years. I moved around to different banking centers, became an interim head teller, and started doing training for new hires. When I felt I didn't want to go into the sales side of banking, I moved to Baltimore Gas and Electric in a temporary operations position, but that only lasted about 2 years due to merger difficulties. Then I went to a mechanical contractor where I worked for 15 years, starting as a project coordinator. When a colleague had health issues and needed surgery, I filled in for her back office operations role, fell in love with it, and was given the option to stay. I took that role and made so many changes and enhancements through the process that it kept me there through promotion after promotion. I always joked that when the little stapler eraser I started with ran out, it would be time to move on, and 15 years later when that eraser was almost finished, I did move on to where I am today. I came to my current role with my pencil and ruler, thinking I'd be doing more typing, but I got more into the technical and operational side of the healthcare industry and just continued to learn. I'm the person who says 'let me see if I can dig in and figure something out' or 'I'd really like to learn about that because maybe there's another opportunity.' I've been fortunate to be surrounded by people who were very much interested in seeing me grow. I started as a project manager, then took on one person under me, and now I have 13 team members across vastly different departments.
