Candace's professional journey began at Mid-Fairfield Child Guidance Center, where she facilitated therapeutic groups, provided case management, and developed trauma-informed support strategies for youth and families. Her continued work in mental health services at Keystone House further deepened her commitment to holistic, student-centered programming that supports both emotional well-being and academic growth. With each role, she has brought a strong foundation in culturally responsive practices and a collaborative approach to working with families, educators, and community leaders.

Candace holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University and recently earned a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from the American College of Education. Her long-term goal is to lead within the nonprofit sector, championing youth development and educational equity through strategic, compassionate leadership. Q

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to the incredible women in my family who led by example. My grandmother, who ran three nonprofit shelter homes in Haiti, and my mother, who immigrated to the U.S. without any family support, both demonstrated resilience, compassion, and a deep commitment to serving others. Their strength and dedication inspired my own path and continue to motivate me to give back and uplift communities in meaningful ways.

Q

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to never be afraid to try — even if there's a risk of failure. Growth comes from stepping outside your comfort zone, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn. In the workplace, especially as women, it's important to take up space, trust your voice, and remember that trying and potentially failing is far more powerful than not trying at all.
