Candace Nicole Thompson
Candace Nicole Thompson is the CEO and Founder of YeahYouToo.org, a community-centered organization dedicated to supporting families and individuals navigating mental health challenges. She began her career as a Behavior Technician, working with individuals deemed incompetent to stand trial, helping them develop the skills to engage meaningfully in their own defense. This foundational work instilled in her the values of patience, structure, and meeting people exactly where they are, which continue to guide her approach today.
Candace later worked extensively with individuals with developmental disabilities, recognizing that progress often comes in small, yet life-changing moments. These experiences reinforced her belief in compassionate, individualized support that emphasizes dignity alongside outcomes. Her approach is trauma-informed, family-centered, and focused on equipping clients with practical tools to reduce crises, strengthen emotional regulation, and promote long-term stability.
Through YeahYouToo.org, Candace addresses critical gaps in mental health support, providing education, engagement, and access to essential resources including food assistance, sober living support, and pathways toward self-sufficiency. A Qualified Mental Health Specialist, she brings frontline experience to her leadership, creating programs that empower families, restore hope, and foster stronger communities. Her work embodies a commitment to measurable impact, dignity, and accountability, ensuring that every individual and family has the opportunity to thrive.
What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to the incredible influence of my grandmother, Sandra Shearer, whose guidance and example shaped who I am today. I also credit my son, Zion Thompson, for inspiring me to strive for excellence every day and motivating me to create a legacy of determination, resilience, and purpose.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to focus on passion and purpose rather than chasing money. True fulfillment and long-term success come from doing work that matters and aligns with your values.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering this industry is to never stay in your comfort zone. Challenge yourself, take risks, and always remember that there’s an exit—opportunities are out there if you’re willing to seek them.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field right now is managing burnout, anxiety, and depression, and helping professionals reconnect with their “why.” At the same time, there’s a tremendous opportunity to give back to the community and create meaningful impact through our work.
