Her Story

About Candice

I have been in the education field for over 20 years, since 2003, working in a range of settings and environments as a special education teacher and eventually as an English teacher. I have multiple degrees in special education, a master's in fine arts and writing, and an English degree that I've been able to leverage as an educator for many years. Eventually, I became an administrator like a teacher coach, a dean, and the principal, helping to build a high school. I literally saw myself building up organizations, using my skills and gifts to help elevate organizations, bring funding in, and attract high-level professionals who really shifted the trajectory of the organization. I felt like I could be doing that for my own self and really follow my own goals and dreams. So I stepped away from teaching in the public schools about 2 years ago and have been working on my own business, the EduTutor Hub, which helps educators or people who have educational ideas bring their ideas to fruition and help deliver it to their audience using my educational background, so that the message not just lands, but it is received no matter who your audience is. I also do teaching and coaching with clients on a coaching basis, and limited teaching and tutoring just to always keep my hands in the field of education and understand the shifts and changes and what's relevant, so that I can support other people in doing the same. I help everyone from realtors to homeschool parents to people with social-emotional learning programs who want to turn their ideas into teachable programs for their target audience. I have a team of contractors who I work with on a project-by-project basis to support with curriculum development, supporting learners as needed, and finalizing projects.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Candice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think for me, I think inspiring people to do, to be greater. I just have a natural belief in the innate gifts that other people possess. And I think it can be an uncomfortable experience, and sometimes I make people uncomfortable because I challenge them to lean into those things that can help them to be exceptional. So I would say that is the piece, or the thing that attributes to my success.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think you just need to listen to yourself. You know, sometimes I think we get like little taps of our intuition that kind of give us clues or hints about where we should be going. And I think for a long time, even myself, I always thought, well, if I do it this way and follow this path, the path that most people think is prescribed to you, that's the way that you should go. And a lot of times, I was ignoring the voice inside of me that was telling me that I should be doing more. And I would just say, listen to that voice inside of you. No matter how quiet it is, it's there, you know? Over time it gets louder and louder.
