Her Story

About Candice

Candice M. Sherman is a P-Card Administrator in higher education finance, serving all State University of New York campuses. She manages credit card administration, fraud prevention, user onboarding and training, and vendor payments. With 23 years of experience, she has built her career on a strong foundation in business administration and project management, and she has presented on P-Card programs and ghost cards at a research symposium.

Her path began with an internship at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, which led to her first position there and eventually to a role at SUNY as a part-time accounts payable specialist. As her responsibilities grew, she advanced into her current full-time role, which she has held remotely since the COVID-19 pandemic. She earned an associate degree from Bryant & Stratton College and later completed a bachelor's degree at SUNY Empire State University in one year. She did so by taking up to eight classes per semester, testing out of eligible courses, and keeping a 4.0 GPA. She is also a certified Active Parenting Trainer, Parent Mentor, and Parent Trainer.

Beyond her professional work, Sherman is a published author of children's books, a blogger, and a dedicated advocate for foster care, having been a foster and adoptive parent to 10 children. She credits her success to determination and a refusal to give up, and she encourages young women entering the field to keep showing up, build confidence, and advocate for themselves.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Candice

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my refusal to accept bad days or setbacks. Not working out has never been an option for me. Many people give up more easily than I do, and I have never turned down a challenge. I take each one on and see it through. Looking back, I would tell my younger self that it all works out and that it is worth it.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice is to keep showing up. Be confident in yourself, and be ready to speak up for yourself.
