About Cara
My path to becoming a copywriter started back in 2018 when I was interning at a small boutique agency called The Agency in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I attended grad school. I really fell in love with advertising there, so I decided to go back to UGA for my master's degree in advertising specifically, which I completed in December of 2019, just in time for COVID. I freelanced for a little bit during that time and did some other work to stay busy. I got to know Denver Ad School and did a 4-week program with them, or actually an 8-week program, in the summer of 2020. Fast forward about 3 years into my role as a copywriter in Atlanta at GoTo Foods, formerly Focus Brands, and I decided to attend the entire full-on portfolio program at Denver Ad School while working, which was a trip and a lot of work, but really rewarding. I got to pitch one of our projects at Young Ones, and we were given second place in a pitch competition against about 16 other teams. Denver Ad School was great for me professionally and also just creatively. I completed that program from April of 2024 to July of 2025, and I firmly believe that is how I have grown my career even further. I'm now a senior copywriter at Trade School in Atlanta, Georgia, where I've been since January. My main area of expertise is working in the paid media sector of copywriting and advertising, because you get to be social forward since you are on social platforms with a lot of paid media nowadays, but you're trying to bring your brand forward and cut through the clutter of everything that's on the internet and still stand out on these platforms that are screaming for everyone's attention.

01What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
The biggest advice is to stay curious and keep your mind open. This industry requires you to become a layman expert in whatever your client is, so keeping that kind of curiosity and asking why nature really helps keep things fresh, no matter what you're working on. I think that really helps me stay invested and interested in something, even if it's maybe not, on paper, the most interesting thing in the world.
