Her Interview

Ten minutes with Caren

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to being independent, determined, and willing to take initiative. My mother taught my sister and me early on that we must always be capable of taking care of ourselves. I have carried that mindset into my career by embracing new challenges, taking on greater responsibilities, expanding my skill set, and continually looking for opportunities to grow, increase my impact, and demonstrate my value.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is to soften my direct communication style and be more intentional and professional with my language. I’ve also benefited greatly from the encouragement and support of other women in the industry, who have helped me grow in confidence and leadership.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering the industry is to remember that the sky’s the limit. Even if you start by answering phones, don’t assume that’s where you have to stay. Put yourself out there, volunteer for additional responsibilities, and show that you’re willing to go beyond your job description. Have open conversations with your manager, communicate your goals, use career development plans, and most importantly, never doubt your ability to succeed.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me are integrity, accountability, communication, and respect. If I say I’m going to do something, I make every effort to follow through and do it when I say I will. If circumstances change, I believe in communicating openly rather than leaving others wondering. I also value being responsive and respectful, and when I feel frustrated or overwhelmed, I recognize that it’s okay to step away, reset, and come back with a clearer perspective.
