Her Interview
Ten minutes with Carina
01What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to my determination, perseverance, and commitment to continuously developing my expertise. Throughout my career, I have remained focused on advancing professionally, embracing new opportunities, and never giving up when faced with challenges. I have also been fortunate to have an incredibly supportive husband and family who have encouraged me throughout my journey and have always been proud of my accomplishments. Their support, combined with my own drive and dedication, has given me the confidence and motivation to continue growing and pursuing excellence.
02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I have ever received is, “If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.” This simple principle has encouraged me to be proactive, speak up, seek opportunities, and never be afraid to express my interest in learning or taking on new responsibilities. Throughout my career, I have found that being willing to ask questions, pursue opportunities, and advocate for my own growth can open doors that might otherwise remain closed.
03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
My advice to young women entering the biotechnology industry is to believe in yourself, pursue what you truly want, and never allow challenges or circumstances to discourage you. The path may be difficult at times, but determination, hard work, and a willingness to keep moving forward can make a meaningful difference. I came from a family that was not financially well off, and I was determined to build a better future for myself and my family. That mindset has continued to motivate me throughout my career. I encourage young women to work hard, remain persistent, seek opportunities, and trust that with dedication and perseverance, things will ultimately fall into place.
04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is balancing the needs and expectations of multiple clients, particularly when everyone wants their data as quickly as possible. Managing competing priorities while maintaining scientific rigor, data quality, and regulatory standards requires strong organization, communication, and time management. At the same time, this challenge creates an opportunity to strengthen client relationships by setting clear expectations, communicating proactively, and delivering reliable results while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity.
05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
Integrity is the most important value to me, both professionally and personally. In my work, I believe our data must be accurate, reliable, and thoroughly supported, and I take responsibility for ensuring that every procedure is performed correctly and every result is reported honestly. There is no room for compromising the quality or integrity of the data. I carry that same principle into my personal life by believing that whatever I do, I should do it the right way, give it my best effort, and always strive to uphold a high standard of honesty and accountability.
