Her Story
About Carla
Carla Anderson is an independent artist based in Southfield, Michigan, with a career spanning more than 50 years. She began with interests in photography and archaeology, studied theater, and worked for two to three years as a medical photographer in the pathology department at Harper Hospital before earning her bachelor's degree from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. She then completed a Master's of Fine Arts in photography at Cranbrook and later obtained a master's in education, which enabled her to teach as an adjunct instructor and for 17 years in elementary education, totaling 25 years in teaching before retiring to focus on her art. For the past 20 years, Anderson has concentrated on long-term landscape photography projects, often traveling for three to four weeks at a time on one or two photographic trips annually. She has received grants and scholarships, completed a residency at the main photographic workshops, and attributes her enduring success to hard work. Anderson is politically liberal, comes from a politically active family, supports certain organizations, and remains somewhat active politically while volunteering occasionally.
