Her Story

About Carlie

Carlie Martin is an Enterprise Sales Executive at NTT DATA North America, where she focuses on enterprise technology sales within the Salesforce and MuleSoft practice. With approximately 13 years of experience in sales, she has developed expertise in consultative selling, enterprise account development, channel sales, and software solutions. Her professional experience includes roles at Apisero Inc., Certinia, TriNet, and Yelp, where she progressively advanced through account executive, senior sales, and sales leadership positions. At Apisero, she led sales and account activities for manufacturing, automotive, and energy clients, working with account teams to identify client needs and expand service opportunities.

Carlie holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Portland State University, with a minor in Business. Her academic background, combined with her experience as a Division I college soccer player, has shaped her understanding of people, resilience, teamwork, and relationship building. She credits her strong work ethic, willingness to embrace uncomfortable challenges, and ability to learn from criticism and setbacks as important contributors to her professional development. Her sales achievements include receiving Rookie of the Year recognition twice, being named a top salesperson during her first year, and securing the largest deal in her mid-market segment at a startup company.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Carlie is involved with the Austin chapter of Texas Women in Business and supports animal welfare through fostering puppies with Jack Jacks Pack and kittens through Austin Pets Alive!'s neonatal program. She is particularly interested in how organizations can adopt AI responsibly, strengthen security around financial system integrations, and use technology to create business value while supporting their employees. Guided by authenticity, vulnerability, trust, and meaningful relationships, she continues to develop her expertise and help clients navigate evolving technology and business needs.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carlie

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to a strong work ethic and a fear of failure that pushes me to step outside my comfort zone, embrace challenges, and learn quickly. My Division I soccer background also helped build the resilience and ability to handle criticism and setbacks that I bring to my sales career. I also believe my dragon and rat energy, according to the Chinese zodiac, opens doors and contributes to my success.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I’ve learned that professional growth comes from being willing to step outside my comfort zone, take on new challenges, and learn quickly. Rather than waiting until I feel completely comfortable or prepared, I believe in embracing unfamiliar situations and working through them because that is where meaningful growth happens.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Sales can be a challenging industry for women. My advice is to work hard, avoid oversharing or over-explaining yourself, and earn your place in the room. Be willing to step outside your comfort zone and embrace vulnerability, because building trust requires openness and the courage to take risks.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is understanding how AI is affecting businesses, particularly when it comes to securing financial system integrations and adopting AI responsibly without eliminating jobs. At the same time, this creates opportunities for consultative sales professionals who can build trust, guide clients through responsible AI adoption, expand existing projects, and help teams develop new skills.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Authenticity, vulnerability, trust, and relationship building are the values that matter most to me. I believe in being a good steward of relationships and having the courage to address difficult issues directly. This builds mutual respect, strengthens connections, and helps avoid wasting time in situations that are not the right fit.
