Her Story

About Carly

Carly Cron is a certified public accountant who has spent her entire professional career at the same public accounting firm since graduating college more than five years ago. She earned her CPA license within her first year and chose to specialize in tax due to her technical and analytical strengths, focusing on income tax compliance, tax planning, and preparing returns for businesses and individuals. In her leadership role, Carly serves as an intermediary between clients, partners, and junior staff, mentoring direct reports on career development while reviewing work and facilitating projects. She is an active member of the AICPA and the Arizona Society of CPAs and has pursued additional leadership training, including the AICPA Global Women's Summit and a company change catalyst program. Carly was honored with her firm's Rising Star Award for embodying company culture and going above and beyond. She attributes her success to supportive mentors, family, and her fiance, and she values being approachable, especially to women entering the field. Outside of work, she participates in local volunteer efforts such as events supporting St. Jude Children's Hospital, Feed My Starving Children, and neighborhood street cleanups.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carly

01What do you attribute your success to?

I would say just the people around me. I have a really good group of mentors here at my office, but also just, like, my family. I think it's impossible for me to do what I do, especially with, like, the intense, busy seasons, and deadlines. It's impossible to do that without people I trust and help that help me around me. So, I would definitely say my family, my fiance, and then just all the amazing tours I have at work.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

I would say just to never be afraid of asking questions, and always looking for opportunities to get feedback. I feel like when you first start a new job, it's so intimidating to ask questions, but people would rather have you ask and get the answer right versus keep it into yourself, and then you're just always getting it wrong. So, I would say being open to learning, asking questions, and just being an approachable person.
