Her Story

About Carmen

Carmen A. Adjei-Badu is a beauty-industry professional, paralegal, executive assistant, and entrepreneur whose work brings together regulatory compliance, business operations, and purpose-driven entrepreneurship. At Equity Wellness Co, she provides paralegal and executive support within an FDA-regulated environment, contributing to accurate documentation, regulatory processes, and operational efficiency. Her experience includes supporting work related to beauty product compliance, including cosmetic labeling requirements and product-related regulations. Having worked across different areas of the beauty industry since 2021, including influencer-related work and med spa operations, Carmen has developed a multifaceted understanding of the industry and the importance of product safety, transparency, and consumer trust. Carmen is also the founder of from me, to you™, a self-care brand inspired by her Ghanaian heritage and grounded in the philosophy of caring for the whole person. What began as seasonal, small-batch body care has expanded into a broader vision encompassing body care, adornment, and self-care guides that encourage people to choose themselves with intention. Through the brand, Carmen hopes to make self-care feel more accessible by emphasizing thoughtful products, transparent ingredients, and fair pricing. Her entrepreneurial approach reflects the belief that self-care is never selfish and that everyday routines can become meaningful opportunities for reflection, comfort, and personal well-being. She is also planning a charitable body scrub initiative intended to direct 100% of its proceeds to Dawn’s Arrival, a nonprofit supporting women before, during, and after pregnancy. Carmen attributes her professional growth to her willingness to adapt, remain curious, and learn from every experience. She also recognizes the influence of women mentors and colleagues who have supported her development and helped her identify new opportunities. One of them being Antonia Marinoni, who introduced her to Dawn’s arrival by way of working with them for many years. Her values of integrity, accountability, fairness, and compassion shape both her professional responsibilities and her entrepreneurial vision. By combining her knowledge of regulatory compliance with her interest in self-care and culturally inspired product development, Carmen aims to build a brand that prioritizes consumer trust, accessibility, and community impact. Her journey reflects the idea that professional growth does not always follow a straight path; each experience can contribute to a larger purpose when approached with intention.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carmen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to my willingness to pivot, remain curious, and learn something new at every stage of my journey. My career has taken me through different areas of the beauty industry, from influencer-related work and med spa operations to regulatory compliance. Each experience has given me valuable knowledge that I can apply to my current work and entrepreneurial pursuits. I also credit the women who have mentored and supported me throughout my career. Their encouragement, collaboration, and willingness to share their knowledge have helped me grow professionally and recognize new opportunities.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

One of the most valuable pieces of career advice I have received is to price products fairly and thoughtfully. I believe pricing should consider more than business margins; it should also reflect accessibility and the value customers receive. I want people to enjoy products that make their everyday routines feel special without making self-care seem like a luxury reserved for a select few. I have also learned the importance of sharing my goals, asking questions, and building relationships, because opportunities can emerge when I am willing to speak openly about what I hope to accomplish.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I encourage young women to give themselves permission to evolve and not be afraid to talk about what they want to build. Seek mentors, ask questions, and treat every role as an opportunity to learn. I also recommend understanding the business side of the beauty industry, including pricing, product safety, regulatory compliance, and customer trust. You do not have to limit yourself to one professional identity or follow a perfectly linear career path. Your experiences can complement one another and create opportunities you may never have imagined. Take the first step, remain open to learning, and do not feel that you have to accomplish everything alone.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges I face is balancing entrepreneurial ambitions with personal well-being while managing professional responsibilities. Building a business requires intentionality, consistent effort, and the ability to prioritize. At the same time, I see a meaningful opportunity for beauty brands to distinguish themselves through transparent ingredients, responsible product claims, fair pricing, and a genuine commitment to consumer safety. Through my brand, from me, to you, I hope to demonstrate that a business can pursue growth while remaining rooted in accessibility, cultural heritage, and giving back to the community.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness, and compassion are central to how I approach my work and personal life. I believe people deserve honest information, thoughtful service, and opportunities to care for themselves without judgment. These values guide my approach to regulatory compliance, executive support, and building my self-care brand. I also believe in intentionality: being mindful of what I create, whom I serve, and the impact my decisions have on others. Ultimately, meaningful success is not only about what I build but also about how I make people feel along the way.
