Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carmen

01What do you attribute your success to?

I think all my failures in learning from them, all the mistakes I've done across my career, and different strategies, and having the humility to learn from them, and to grow from them.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

When I was starting, I had a mentor that told me, never assume anything, even if it's logical. And when marketing, when creating a marketing strategy, just stick to the facts, and stick to the data. Don't assume. That has shaped a lot of my decisions across my career.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I think that always be true to your beliefs. Always be true to what you think is right for you. Not so much for the salary you're being offered at the moment. And I think that when making a career move, you have to think in the long run, what is more beneficial and where you want to go, more than just what salary and benefits are being offered on the table.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges is to confront yourself with different cultures, different languages, different forms of living when expanding brands into new markets. Opportunities include learning more about strategy and how to communicate and connect, and expanding into new markets like Europe, Asia, and Africa.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Honestly, honesty and respect for what I'm doing. And believing that I'm doing the right thing, that I'm promoting something that I actually think is good, it has good quality, and that I'm not selling something that I don't believe in.
