What do you attribute your success to?
I attribute my success to a strong foundation in engineering, a passion for continuous learning, and a drive to lead through innovation and inclusion. From launching the first in-flight Wi-Fi system to improving missile system performance, my journey—from Mexico to the U.S., automotive to aerospace—has been fueled by technical excellence, data analytics, and a deep commitment to mentoring and representation in STEM.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always believe in yourself—confidence fuels progress. No matter your background, surround yourself with diverse mentors who inspire growth and remind you that your voice matters.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
Believe in yourself, stay curious, and never stop learning—your adaptability is your superpower. Don’t be afraid to challenge stereotypes around women in leadership or motherhood; your presence paves the way for others.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
One of the biggest challenges in my field is overcoming gender bias, especially for working mothers in leadership roles, which I experienced firsthand when I became a director while pregnant. This has fueled my commitment to breaking stereotypes, navigating male-dominated industries, and proving that women can thrive professionally while raising a family.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values most important to me are authenticity, inclusivity, and responsibility. Whether at home or in the workplace, I show up as the same Carmen—genuine, respectful, energetic, and collaborative—always leading by example and working to create space for others, especially women and minorities, to thrive in environments where we’re often underrepresented.
