What do you attribute your success to?
My journey to success has been shaped by a combination of personal determination and the unwavering support of my loved ones. My family's support has been the driving force behind my achievements, and I'm grateful for their encouragement and motivation every step of the way. They've been my rock, my confidants, and my biggest cheerleaders, providing a foundation of love and support that's allowed me to pursue my passions with confidence and purpose. With their backing, I've been able to overcome every obstacle, stay focused on my goals, and achieve my dreams. I'm thankful for their presence in my life and recognize that their influence has been instrumental in my success.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
The best career advice I’ve ever received is to always ask questions and to understand the why behind each task. It is not enough to just blindly perform your job, but you need to understand its impact and importance behind what you do. For example, as part of my role responsibilities I'm in charge of posting accrual entries during month end. It is important that those accruals are booked because otherwise we would not be recognizing the labor services performed on broken/defective equipment and those expenses and liabilities would be understated as they have been incurred.
What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?
I would encourage young women entering the accounting industry to embrace change, speak up with confidence, and be prepared to work hard. During my time at Dell, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many women in leadership roles, which reassures me that I too can one day lead a team with passion, integrity, and adaptability. The same holds true for all young women pursuing a career in accounting, while the field has traditionally been male dominated, there are abundant opportunities for us to stand out, make meaningful contributions, and become leaders in our profession.
What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?
The accounting field is at a crossroads, with demanding work schedules posing a significant challenge, yet also creating opportunities for those who persevere. Although public accounting is demanding, industry roles can offer a more balanced lifestyle. The current shortage of accountants, driven by a decline in college students pursuing accounting majors, has created a surge in job openings and opportunities for those interested in the field. As a result, accounting professionals can enjoy strong job security, as every business needs skilled accountants to analyze and interpret complex data, drive growth, and inform strategic decisions. Even as artificial intelligence automates routine tasks, the expertise and judgment of accountants remain essential, making this a rewarding and in-demand career path.
What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?
The values that matter most to me both professionally and personally are honesty, dedication, hard work, and family. I value honesty because I strive to be seen as trustworthy, and I believe that leading by example and doing the right thing is the best way to earn that trust. Dedication and hard work were instilled in me from a young age. In elementary school, I took pride in standing out as one of the top students in my class. My teacher would rank the top five students, and I was always determined to be in the top three. That drive pushed me to stay committed to my studies and actively participate in class. Years later, that same dedication helped me earn my CPA license, a challenging journey that was incredibly rewarding.
Family is also invaluable to me. As I mentioned earlier, they are my motivators, confidants, and biggest cheerleaders. Whenever I face obstacles or difficult situations, they’re the ones encouraging me to keep going or to try again. Without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. And one day, I hope to pass on that same unwavering support to my daughter.
