Her Story

About Carmen

I started my manufacturing career in 1989 with internships in Tuscaloosa and Decatur, Alabama, and after graduating from college, I was hired at Morton International in 1994. I've now been in the field for over 30 years. For the past 16 years, I've been working in Mobile, Alabama in my current role as a Production Planner, where I also serve as a material master administrator, super user, and quality support specialist. I've worked in all facets of manufacturing except accounting, and I hold my CPIM certification. My typical day is incredibly busy and usually runs about 10 hours. I start by running interface reports for the entire mill as part of my super user role, then troubleshoot issues throughout the day. I look at planning needs and write formulas for stainless steel production, and I also handle quality support by reviewing ASTM certificates. I have to be very organized, detailed, and self-sufficient because I'm constantly answering questions, training others, and managing multiple responsibilities. One of my most notable professional achievements was being part of the startup project management team in 2009, where I helped bring the mill to life from the ground up. Watching the facility go from dirt to a fully operational mill that's still running 16 years later was incredible. While I'm really good at startups, I never want to do another one - but I'm proud of what we accomplished.
