Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carol

01What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success to maintaining a constant commitment to learning and refusing to become comfortable with the status quo. No matter how much experience I gain in a particular field, I believe there is always more to discover, understand, and improve upon. I make it a point every day to learn something new, seek out knowledge, and remain open to new ideas and perspectives. That continued curiosity and thirst for growth have helped me stay adaptable, evolve professionally, and consistently challenge myself to reach the next level.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

My advice to young women entering this industry is to build a strong foundation of knowledge and confidence. Take the time to understand the information and resources necessary to do your job well, including the relevant jurisdictions, laws, regulations, and different perspectives that may influence your work. Just as importantly, build a strong network of resources and relationships throughout the community so you know where to turn for reliable information and guidance. Believe in your knowledge and abilities, because confidence helps establish credibility, strengthen your professional reputation, and give you the foundation to accomplish your goals.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

The biggest challenge in my field right now is attracting and retaining talented, committed professionals. The market is relatively depleted, and many experienced individuals are secure in their current positions and have little interest in making a move. Staffing has always been a challenge, but today there is an added need to find people who are willing to invest in their work, continuously develop their skills, and contribute beyond the minimum. There is an enormous amount of information and resources available, which creates a tremendous opportunity for those who are willing to seek out knowledge, apply it, and remain committed to professional growth.
