About Carol

Carol Pope has dedicated her career to education since graduating from Baylor University in 1989 with a bachelor's degree in education and a specialization in reading. She began teaching second grade and later moved to the Dallas area to serve as an adjunct professor at Texas Women's University, supervising student teachers. She directed the Upward Bound program at Kilgore College for first-generation college-bound high school students and worked as a high school counselor in a public school district before purchasing and expanding Sylvan Learning Centers across Longview, Mount Pleasant, and Tyler, Texas. Today, Carol Pope specializes in working with families and students, leveraging her counseling expertise to guide educational paths, build confidence, and connect families with resources. Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carol

01What do you attribute your success to?

Following my passion and seeking diversity in my career experiences across different ages, levels, and sectors in education rather than staying in one role. This drive to explore new avenues and gain exposure kept me moving forward and reaching for new opportunities.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Listen to your heart and follow your passion rather than chasing salary, as educators become millionaires in changing hearts. Education kept coming to mind despite wanting a big salary, and stopping to listen led to loving the work with children and families.
