Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carol

01What do you attribute your success to?

My success comes from my spiritual beliefs. God has anointed me with certain skill sets and drive. Staying true to my spirituality has kept me grounded and focused, which is why I've excelled. I can see the light in others and celebrate their greatness without making myself feel smaller.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I received was from my former boss, a real estate director, who commended me for being consistent and always working hard to complete a task. She recognized my solid performance based on my efforts, and since she rarely gave accolades, it was very meaningful.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Younger generations aren't willing to work as hard and are quick to give up if things don't go their way. I tell them to stay diligent because it will pay off in the long run if you put forth the effort.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

Opportunities involve being acknowledged and given the same opportunities as counterparts who do not look like me. Being a woman of color in a male-dominant field means constantly having to work extra hard, prove myself, dot my I's and cross my T's just to sit at the table.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

My work ethic is very important to me. I strive to be the best and do the best, with honesty and integrity. I stay focused and give every assignment my all, never slacking on anything.
