About Carolina

Carolina Rawls has been working in the legal field since 2014, when she joined her current firm while still in college. She began as a legal assistant, advanced to paralegal and then senior paralegal, and for the last few years has handled the firm's finances and bookkeeping. Rawls earned a Bachelor of Science in Corporate Communications from UT in 2015 and completed the Business Foundations Program certificate at UT. She is also a notary. In addition to her professional roles, Rawls values personal accountability highly and advises admitting mistakes promptly to learn from them. She attributes her success to standing on the shoulders of giants combined with luck and hard work. Among the challenges she sees in her field is navigating the use of AI responsibly. Rawls suggests that young women entering the industry should not be afraid to move around and learn the art of leading from behind in male-dominated leadership environments.

Her Interview

Ten minutes with Carolina

01What do you attribute your success to?

Standing on the shoulders of giants. Bit of luck. Some hard work mixed in there.

02What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

In life and in the career both, if you recognize that you've made a mistake, just admit it. Just admit it and move on. You can't learn from it if you don't admit it.

03What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Don't be afraid to move around. Leadership is also heavily male-dominated, so the art of learning to lead from behind is important.

04What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

A challenge and an opportunity is AI. Trying to figure out what we should be doing with it, and how we can use it, and how to not get in trouble when we're using it.

05What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

Personal accountability, for sure. If I'm trusting somebody to do something, that they're going to make sure that it gets done to the standard that I want it to be done. You know, having to follow behind them and make sure that they do it right.
