Dr. Carolyn Hayward is a seasoned educational leader and consultant with more than three decades of experience dedicated to advancing high-quality teaching and learning. Currently serving as a Principal with Clay County District Schools, she is known for her strong instructional leadership, strategic vision, and unwavering commitment to student-centered, inclusive school environments. Her leadership is grounded in data-informed decision-making, high expectations, and accountability, fostering a culture of excellence where both students and educators can thrive.
Throughout her career, Dr. Hayward has held a range of impactful roles, including Assistant Principal, Behavior Specialist, and Special Education Teacher, giving her a deep, holistic understanding of school systems and student needs. In addition to her work as a principal, she recently joined Tegus as an Educational Consultant, where she partners with schools and organizations to guide school improvement efforts, coach educators, and support professional development initiatives.
Dr. Hayward holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of North Florida, along with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. She is passionate about building strong teams, cultivating meaningful relationships with students, staff, and community partners, and leading with purpose. Driven by a genuine love for education, she surrounds herself with high performers and believes that effective leadership, rooted in trust and high standards, is the foundation of lasting impact in schools and beyond.

What do you attribute your success to?

I attribute my success as a teacher and leader to building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations, continuously learning, and staying focused on what is best for students.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve ever received came from amazing mentors who reminded me that teaching and leading is a difficult job and that seeking support, guidance, and perspective along the way is essential to lasting success.

What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

Be present for your students and stay in the moment, because while being an educator is challenging, it is also incredibly rewarding.

What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in my field right now is being able to show up fully for everyone who needs me—from supporting staff to meeting the diverse needs of students and the families that I serve.

The values most important to me as a school leader are integrity, empathy, accountability, and service—guiding my work through strong relationships, clear expectations, and a commitment to doing what is best for students and staff.
