Carolyn Hodge, CEM, is a seasoned event and trade show professional with more than three decades of experience in the exposition and event services industry. As a Senior Account Executive at Fern Exposition & Event Services, Carolyn has spent 31 years partnering with associations and show managers to bring large-scale conventions and trade shows to life. Her work spans a wide range of industries, including medical, dental, education, beauty, safety, heavy equipment, and metal forging, giving her a deep understanding of how diverse audiences and exhibitors engage within live event environments.

In her role, Carolyn oversees the logistical and operational backbone of events, managing everything from site selection and floor plan development to contracts, exhibitor service manuals, and on-site execution. Known for her strong project management skills and entrepreneurial mindset, she is constantly analyzing how shows can be improved, more efficient, and more impactful for both exhibitors and attendees. While the work often involves long hours and extensive travel, Carolyn’s attention to detail and collaborative approach have made her a trusted partner to clients across the country.

02What advice would you give to young women entering your industry?

I would advise young women entering this industry to gain strong project management experience and be prepared for demanding schedules, including long hours, weekends, and late nights, while staying committed to delivering excellence.

03What are the biggest challenges or opportunities in your field right now?

One of the biggest challenges and opportunities in the event and trade show industry is balancing the demanding travel and workload with long-term career fit, while leveraging networking and self-promotion to break through male-dominated spaces and open doors for the next generation of women.

04What values are most important to you in your work and personal life?

The values most important to me in my work and personal life are integrity, commitment, and service to others, balanced with making time for personal growth through reading, kayaking, and giving back through church outreach.
