Carolyn J. Mobley-Bowie
Reverend Carolyn J. Mobley-Bowie is a respected clergy leader, educator, and musician based in Saginaw, Michigan, whose ministry spans more than five decades of service within Christian education, worship, and pastoral leadership. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Religious Education from Hardin-Simmons University and a Master’s degree in Religious Education from Morehouse School of Religion at the Interdenominational Theological Center, where she graduated in 1971. Grounded in a lifelong commitment to faith, learning, and justice, Rev. Mobley-Bowie has dedicated her career to creating welcoming, inclusive spiritual communities that honor diversity and foster authentic relationship with God.
Rev. Mobley-Bowie formally retired from active clergy service at the end of 2024 and currently serves part-time as an independent contractor with Metropolitan Community Churches (MCC), providing outreach and support to senior retired clergy in a stipend, limited-hours role. She also volunteers as Minister of Music for Breath of Life Spiritual Center, MCC, an emerging ministry in Saginaw, and offers occasional pulpit supply through virtual platforms. Throughout her career, she has served on staff in large MCC congregations—including a notable long tenure in Houston—and held pastoral and interim roles in Orlando, Atlanta, Tulsa, Richmond, Pontiac (near Detroit), Tampa, and Saginaw. Her ministry has extended internationally through worship leadership, speaking engagements, Pride events, and community outreach.
At the heart of Rev. Mobley-Bowie’s work is a faith-driven philosophy rooted in authenticity, inclusion, and service. She ministers openly as a lesbian Christian and is especially committed to supporting LGBTQ+ communities, retired clergy, and those seeking affirming spiritual spaces. Music and teaching remain central expressions of her calling, shaping worship experiences that inspire healing, hope, and transformation. Her leadership and advocacy have been recognized through honors such as being elected Grand Marshal of the Houston Pride Parade and being featured on the Making Gay History podcast. Reverend Carolyn J. Mobley-Bowie continues to embody a legacy of compassionate leadership, prophetic witness, and enduring dedication to the Gospel.
